Why your campaign isn't dialling

It says Running and nothing is happening. Eight causes ordered by frequency, starting with the two that aren't faults, and where each one shows itself.

Updated

Ordered by how often each turns out to be the cause, not by severity. The first two are not faults, and between them they account for most reports.

Start on the campaign at /campaigns/…. If it says “No records yet. Records will appear here once the campaign starts processing”, it has not begun — causes 1 and 2. If there are records, filter by All Statuses and All Dispositions to see how they ended: a skipped call carries its reason, which is the fastest route to the answer below.

1. It is outside its schedule window

The campaign shows Running. It has started and is waiting for the right day and time, in the timezone the schedule carries.

Check the timezone before the hours. Set to yours rather than the recipients’, the window is real and simply not open when you are watching. The Schedule summary states it back: Days: …, Windows: …, Timezone: ….

2. It matched nobody

A campaign whose audience resolves to zero recipients goes straight to Completed with no calls and no error. The toast says it plainly: “Campaign had no eligible recipients — marked completed without dispatch.”

Deliberate — “the segment matched nobody” is a clean outcome, not a failure. It also looks exactly like success at a glance. If a campaign finished implausibly fast, check the recipient count first.

3. Some contacts have no voice phone

Not the whole campaign, just part of it. The composer’s recipients preview appends ”· N no phone”, and each such row is marked ”— no phone — will skip”.

Almost always a CSV imported with the number mapped to SMS phone rather than Voice phone. Those contacts are in your list and cannot be called. This is the usual explanation for “it did 49 of 61”, and it was visible before launch.

4. The workspace is out of daily voice minutes

Calls skipped, labelled daily_voice_minutes_exhausted. Settings → Voice shows Used today and the reset time, and the banner reads “Daily budget spent — new calls are paused until …”.

The budget resets at 00:00 UTC — not local midnight. In North America this looks like an outage that heals itself during the afternoon.

5. The trial allowance is gone

Skipped as trial_call_quota_exceeded, and this is two different problems under one label:

  • The daily allowance (10 by default) resets at 00:00 UTC. Wait.
  • The lifetime allowance (50 by default) never resets. Waiting will not fix it; a subscription will.

Indistinguishable from outside, with opposite remedies. If yesterday’s calls went through and today’s do not, it is the daily one. If it has never worked again since it stopped, it is the lifetime one. A second workspace does not help — attempts are counted against the person too.

6. The recipients are on your do-not-call list

Skipped as dnc. Working as intended, and worth confirming rather than assuming — check DNC History on /contacts.

A list imported from elsewhere can arrive already suppressed, and a number opted out under a previous contact record keeps that opt-out when it moves to a new one. That is deliberate: a number somebody opted out of does not become dialable again by being re-imported under a different name.

7. Billing

Skipped as workspace_suspended — out of credits, past due, or cancelled. Nothing about the campaign is wrong and nothing needs relaunching once it is resolved.

8. The destination is blocked, or the agent was turned off

Two rarer ones with distinct labels.

outbound_route_blocked — an international destination from a workspace not enabled for it, or a premium-rate number, which is refused outright. Per-recipient, so a campaign can dial most of a list and skip the part that is abroad.

agent_disabled — the campaign’s agent was paused or archived after launch. The run drains: every remaining call is skipped and labelled rather than placed on behalf of an agent you believe is off. Easy to trigger by accident, because pausing an agent to stop it answering also stops it calling.

If it is none of these

Check the campaign’s own status. Paused needs resuming. Failed and cancelled do not restart on their own. And a campaign still in Draft was never launched — last on the list because it is the one people rule out first and are occasionally wrong about.
