They commented. Now what?
When someone comments a keyword on your post, Omni Octo replies publicly and sends them a DM. If they respond, it keeps going — delivering what you promised, capturing their email or phone number, and handing the conversation to an agent that can answer questions you never scripted.
$49 a month for the platform, which includes 1,000 credits every cycle. The work draws on those, under a monthly budget you set.

InboxInstagram leads — this week
Who came in from Instagram this week and left contact details?
9 people tapped through; 6 left an email or a phone number, all saved to their contact. The other 3 are still inside the 24-hour window if you want to say something.

What Instagram allows
One public reply. One DM. Then it is their move.
This is a platform rule, identical for every tool. Knowing it is what separates a funnel that works from one that looks like it works.
One public reply
Posted under the comment, where everyone reading can see the account is responsive. Write a few variations and they rotate, because identical replies under every comment read as automated to your audience and to Instagram alike.
One private DM
The only automatic message you get. Its job is not to deliver your offer — it is to earn a response, because until you have one there is nothing to follow up.
Their reply opens the door
A 24-hour messaging window opens when the person answers or taps. A link button does not count: they tap, the link opens, and you can no longer message them. Ask for the tap first and send the link after it.
Everything below is built around that budget rather than pretending it is larger.
Setting it up
Connect the account, then describe what you want
1
Connect Instagram
Authorise on Instagram directly. No Facebook Page to create, no Business Manager, no handover roles to assign — those belong to an older way of connecting.
2
Say what should happen
There is no canvas of nodes to wire together. You write a sentence and Octo builds the automation, asking about anything genuinely ambiguous.
3
Watch what it produces
Comments matched, DMs delivered, who tapped, which link they clicked, and which of them left contact details. Per person, not just totals.
The details that matter
Built for what actually happens in a comment thread
Matches how people really comment
Against PEPTIDE it catches "Peptide!", "peptide please" and "@you PEPTIDE 🙏" — punctuation, emoji and mentions are normalised away. It does not catch "peptides" unless you ask for it, and you can list words that block a match so BOOK never answers "how do I cancel my booking".
Four match modesThe link goes out after the tap, not before
A first DM whose only action is a link ends the conversation the moment it succeeds. The sequence asks for a tap, and everything you promised is delivered inside the window that tap opens. This is the mistake that catches almost everyone once.
Opens the 24h windowContact details land on the contact
An email address or phone number in a reply is extracted and attached to the person, without asking them to fill in a form or leave Instagram. If they give one and not the other, the one they gave is saved.
Email and phoneClick counts you can trust
Instagram fetches your links itself to build preview cards, which inflates any naive count. Those fetches are excluded, and clicks are attributed per destination and per person — so you can see whether the booking link is working, not just that something was clicked.
Per destination, per personSomeone answers the next question
When the sequence ends the conversation is still live, and that is where the lead is. An AI agent with your knowledge base picks it up — answering what was never scripted, and declining what it should not answer, which is what a regulated practice needs.
Not a decision treeQuestions
The things people actually ask.
- Do I need a Facebook Page?
- No. We connect to Instagram directly. Guidance published before mid-2024 often says you need a Facebook Page linked through Business Manager with a handover role assigned — that applies to an older way of connecting, and it is where a large share of Instagram automation support problems come from.
- What kind of Instagram account do I need?
- A Professional account — either Creator or Business up to 500,000 followers, Business above that. Switching is free, takes a minute, and keeps your posts and followers. The one real consequence is that a Professional account cannot be private.
- It is set up but nothing happens when I comment. Why?
- Almost always one setting: Settings and activity → Messages and story replies → Message controls → Connected tools → Allow access to messages. It has to be switched on by the account owner and no tool can do it for you. The second most common cause is testing twice from your own account on the same post, which is correctly deduplicated.
- Can it send a sequence of messages after someone comments?
- Only after they respond. Instagram allows one automatic DM per comment; everything after that depends on the person tapping or replying. Any tool offering a multi-message sequence off a comment is describing messages that only send if the recipient acts — which is why the first message is designed to earn that action.
- Will it reply to comments I do not want it to?
- You control the keyword, the match strictness, and a list of words that block a match entirely. You can also restrict it to one post rather than all of them. If two of your automations could both claim a comment, only one answers, and Octo tells you which when you save the second one.
- What happens to the people who never reply?
- They stay in the results as commenters who were sent a DM and did not engage, so you can see the drop-off rather than guess at it. Instagram gives you no way to message them again automatically, which is worth knowing before you plan around it.
